As part of the commitment of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) to increase the awareness and appreciation of Gender and Development (GAD) issues and concerns within the communities, and to conduct gender sensitization and promote integration of the basic principles of GAD in handling community matters, the NAPC GAD Unit headed by the NAPC GAD Chairperson Paterna M. Ruiz, in partnership with the Office of the Secretary Noel K. Felongco, conducted a series of Gender Sensitivity Training for the Ka-Sambayanihan Volunteers in Visayas, NCR, Mindanao, as well as in the Resettlement Sites in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal on March 11-14, 16-19, 22-25, and April 6-8, 2022 respectively.
In line with the commitment of the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐏𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐍𝐀𝐏𝐂) on the 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝟗𝟕𝟏𝟎, otherwise known as the 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧, and as part of its efforts to catalyze and accelerate gender mainstreaming within the agency and its instrumentalities, the NAPC Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System conducted its 2nd G𝐀𝐃 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 on April 19, 2022. The meeting was attended by the GAD Technical Working Group and the corresponding GAD Focals of the different service units and unions, such as the Administrative and Financial Management Service (AFMS), Basic Sector Coordination and Advocacy Service (BSCAS), Local Affairs Coordinating and Monitoring Service (LACMS), Office of Secretary, Contract of Service Employees Association (COSEA), and NAPC Secretariat Workers Association (NAPCSWA).
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), and the NAPC Women Council endeavor to boost efforts in mainstreaming gender and assessing anti-Violence Against Women law implementation. In time with the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration, the parties signed the partnership agreement in a virtual online ceremony held on March 30, 2022.
A total of 18,945 Violence Against Women (VAW) cases have been reported to the PNP Women and Children Protection Center since the onset of COVID-19 in the country on March 2020 to August 2021.
Gender equality plays a crucial role in development. The Gender and Development (GAD) focal point at NAPC actively promotes the advancement of women by combating the feminization of poverty through a series of GAD activities.
