Talakayan and Awarding of Centenarians inspire Elders to embrace healthy and productive aging

On the 4th Day of the Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) Celebration, DSWD together with NAPC-Senior Citizen Sectoral Council and Coalition of Services of the Elderly, Inc. (COSE) hold a Talakayan and Awarding of Centenarians at SM North Edsa Skydome which was participated by about 500 senior citizens nationwide.

The topics were legislative milestones and efforts of the Offices of Senator Risa Hontiveros and Senator Leila De Lima as well as Bayan Muna partylist Representative Mr. Carlos Isagani T. Zarate who are all pushing for the increase of social pension of the senior citizens in the country and for the passage of pending policies that will secure the rights and improve the benefits of our Lolos and Lolas.

Also, Ms. Ma. Garcia Abas, Department Head, Business and Development Loan of SSS introduced their Pension Loan Program which can be availed by our pensioners 80 years old and below. Then, Mrs. Remedios Guerrero of Association of DOH Retired Employees (ADOHRE) expound the theme for this year EFW, “Healthy and Productive Aging Starts with Me.”

And to give recognition to the “young ones upon a time“ who dedicated years of their contribution to their families and in community development, each of the following centenarians for the 3rd Quarter were awarded with a certificate and a cheque amounting to Php 100,000:

1. Mr. Cirilio Magnayon Aguinaldo , born on July 15, 1919 from Pandacan Manila
2. Mr. Tranquilino Jocson Gatdula, born on July 4, 1919 from Macabebe, Pampanga
3. Mrs. Angela Abarra Castro , born on May 15, 1919 from Quezon City
