Govt’s anti-poverty thrust makes landfall in Sulu town

Before hundreds of villagers in the covered municipal gym of Talipao, Alkhaizar A. Alawaddin explained in Tausug the essential benefits of the Magna Carta of the Poor that President Duterte has recently signed into law. This makes Talipao -- the first town in Sulu to openly reject the extremist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) -- also the first town to be apprised of the government’s thrust against poverty. Sulu, with a population of 577,987, has a poverty incidence of 54.9, which is among the highest in the Philippines.
